What Is a Sentence?
A sentence is a group of words which expresses a complete meaning.

Types of Sentences
There are four types of sentences.
A declarative sentence is a sentence which makes a statement or states
a fact. It is usually ends with a period / full
stop. For example:

The meeting begins in two hours.
o
July 4th is Independence Day.
o
You’re a good man, Charlie Brown.
o
Green is my favorite color.
o
Hawaii is a tropical climate.
An imperative
sentence is a sentence which issues a command or a polite request. It ends with
an exclamation mark or a period / full stop. For example:
o
Halt!
o
Yield.
o
Watch for oncoming traffic.
o
Respond immediately.
o
Please lower your voice.
o
Meet me at the town square.
o
Drop what you’re doing and come celebrate with
us!
An interrogative sentence is a type of sentence which asks a
question. It ends with a question mark. For example:
o
Is it snowing?
o
Have you had breakfast?
o
Do you want Coke or Pepsi?
An exclamatory sentence is a type of sentence which expresses
strong emotion. It ends with an exclamation mark. For example:
- The river is rising!
- I can’t wait for the party!
- I don’t know what I’ll do if I don’t pass this test!
- Oh, my goodness, I won!
- This is the best day of my life!
- Please don’t go!
