“Ignorance and betrayal have aided greatly
the process of African enslavement within the African continent” discuss using
two readings. 1995
Ignorance means lack of
knowledge or information about something. Betrayal on the other
hand, is disloyalty or unfaithfulness towards an agreement or responsibility
that one is entrusted. African enslavement is overdependence of African people
or their governments on foreign support or systems such that they lose some of
their freedoms.
It is true that
ignorance and betrayal have greatly contributed to the process of African enslavement
within the African continent. This can be proved by two readings,.by ….and …..by
……….
This time
tomorrow
a)
Government irresponsibility: the majority of people entered into the forest
to fight for Kenyan freedom and was promised good jobs, houses, as well as land
that have been grabbed by the white settler. After the attainment of independence,
the new government betrayed its people. This is a form of enslavement since
those who are in power enjoy resources of the nation while most other citizens
suffer from problems of poor social services like health, water, and education.
b)
Bad tradition and customs: the playwright
portrays ignorance as a big problem in the straggling for people `s rights. Ignorance
has made people live a poor life. As an example, Wanjiro`s mother, refuses her
daughter to marry Asinjo a man from another tribe, thereby denying her the
right to marry a man of her choice because of ignorance. There are
many cases in the society we live today whereby some parents choose partner for
their children without knowing that they are enslaving them with the choices
they do or make for them.
c)
Superstition: because of ignorance,
slum dwellers believe that the stranger can perform magic to save them. But when
stranger tells them he cannot perform magic and that magic is within them they
are disappointed. Superstition is still a problem in many societies even today
a number of people still believe in which doctor even on small issues that need
common sense. As a results society and individuals are enslaved in faith s and
fears which hinder the development.
d)
Admiring of western culture: despite
having our own culture like the dressing style. Africans embrace European ways
pf life even when they do not suit them. Wanjiro admires the new culture. She is
seen walking like European lady. This is a clear manifestation of the colonial
influence among the people , especially the young ones who even today still admire
western style of dressing which makes as slaves of other culture
.
