What makes poetry to be different from other genres like
prose?
Poetry
is a way of expressing the feelings, emotions or ideas, using language
characterized by imaginary and rhythmical sound. Poetry differs from other
literary readings like a novel and play, though they both aim at conveying a
particular message in the society. The following are the differences between
poetry and other literary readings.
Poetry
is rich in imaginary than other readings, like novels which
are not rich in imagery. This means that poems are more imaginative and creates
emags in the mind of readers unlike other readings like novels which not rich
in imaginary. Poet are therefore imaginative than novels.
Poetry
employs language economy while other readings like novels do not
employ language economy. This means that poem uses fewer words to convey it`s
message while other literary genres use plenty of words. Therefore poem always
appear short and novel and pl;ay appear longer.
In poetry,
poems are arranged in fixed verses and stanzas while other
genres like novels and plays which are arranged in sentences and paragraphs. In
poems, the sentences are arranged in fixed stanzas to bring about a particular
musical beat, contrary to other genre like novels and plays which arranged in
paragraphs.
In
addition to that, in poetry, poems are composed for the aim of being sung,
while other readings like novels are created so as to be read.
In poetry,
the character of the poem is the persona while in other
readings like novels the character can be anyone, any person or animals. In poem
the personas are usually the characters who carry the message intended but in
other gentries the message can be conveyed by various characters like animals, birds
or insects.
In poetry,
poems are rich in figure of speech but other readings
like novels are less or figure of speech. This is due to the fact that poems
employ language economy and therefore most of the words used are symbolic making
it rich in figures of speech, unlike other readings whwre most of the words
carry the true messages.
Poetry
has or consists of musical features while other readings
like novels do not have such musical features. This is because poems have
rhyming patterns and rhythmical beats which make it rich in musical features
unlike other readings like novels which have no rhyme or stressed syllables.
Lastly
in poetry there is tone, mood and altitude of the poet
unlike other readings like novel which have no tone or mood of the writer. In poems
altitudes and tones of poets can be identified where in other genre it cannot
be identified.
